"You can lengthen the school year, test every other week, narrow the curriculum, raise the standards, or use any other strategy you can think of to restructure schools. The fact remains, what matters most is the relationship between one student and one teacher."Chick Moorman and Thomas Haller (From The Teacher Talk Advantage)
The goal in providing academic intervention services (AIS) to students is to reach each student's individual needs more effectively. By creating a favorable environment, with smaller groups for more individualized instruction working on building block topics, students are more likely to succeed. It is my goal to closely monitor their progress and growth throughout the year to better their skills in order to improve their understanding of math topics and, in turn, their NYS test score.
The Required Fluencies in the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics:

For more information on what you can do as a parent to improve your child's success, visit The Parents' Guide to Student Success for the appropriate grade level. More than 40 states have adopted the Common Core State Standards, New York being one of them. The focus of the standards is to provide consistent expectations across the nation of what learning should take place at each grade level to better prepare students for their future! The National PTA has created guides to share what key items children should be learning in English Language Arts and Mathematics, activities that parents can do at home to support their child, and ways to improve the relationship between parents and teachers.
Implementation of the Common Core Standards is still in the early stages so please keep in mind our district, along with New York State, is working to find ways to best implement these new changes.
